Royalty Crossing Just Keeps Getting Better!

The Calm After the Christmas Rush: A Fresh Start at Royalty Crossing Mall After weeks of holiday crowds, busy shopping lists, and festive decor, there’s a noticeable shift once the Christmas season ends. The music quiets, the decorations come down, and the pace slows just enough to take a breath. At Royalty Crossing Mall, this calm after the Christmas rush marks not an ending, but the beginning of a new chapter. Over the holidays, Royalty Crossing was filled with seasonal touches and the energy of the weekend pop-up market, where local vendors and shoppers came together to celebrate the season. As the pop-up market wraps up and the festive decor is carefully packed away, the mall transitions into a more relaxed and open space - one that many shoppers find just as inviting. With fewer crowds and a calmer atmosphere, it’s an ideal time to browse, run errands, or simply enjoy your shopping experience. While the sparkle of the holidays may be gone, what remains is what makes Royalty Crossing a year-round destination. Trusted retailers, essential services, and convenient dining options continue to serve the everyday needs of Charlottetown locals. Free parking, easy access, and a comfortable layout make post-holiday visits feel effortless, whether you’re restocking essentials or starting fresh for the year ahead. This time of year also brings a sense of anticipation. January is about resets, routines, and looking forward, and Royalty Crossing is ready for it. With new plans, fresh ideas, and opportunities on the horizon, the mall remains an active part of daily life in the community. The quieter weeks after the holidays offer space to refocus and reconnect with the places that support everyday living. As the new year begins, Royalty Crossing Mall continues to evolve with Charlottetown - welcoming familiar faces, supporting local activity, and looking ahead with optimism. The decorations may be down and the holiday rush may be over, but the energy is still here, shaped by community, convenience, and excitement for what’s next.

How Community Spaces Shape Charlottetown: The Role of Royalty Crossing Mall Community spaces play an important role in shaping how a city feels and functions, especially in a place like Charlottetown where connection and convenience matter. These are the places where daily routines happen, where neighbours' cross paths, and where local life quietly unfolds. Beyond shopping, community hubs help bring people together and make everyday life a little easier. Royalty Crossing Mall has become one of those spaces for many Charlottetown residents. It’s a place people visit not just for purchases, but as part of their regular routines - running errands, grabbing a coffee, meeting up with family, or taking a break during a busy day. With free parking, updated hallways, and a relaxed atmosphere, it offers a comfortable environment that welcomes people of all ages and needs. In smaller cities, community spaces often serve multiple purposes, and Royalty Crossing reflects that. It supports local jobs, provides a home for a mix of national and local businesses, and gives residents a reliable place to access essential services in one location. These everyday interactions help strengthen the sense of community and keep local activity close to home. Community spaces also evolve alongside the people who use them. As Charlottetown grows and changes, Royalty Crossing continues to adapt, remaining relevant through all seasons and stages of life. Whether it’s a quick weekday visit or a longer weekend stop, the mall fits naturally into the rhythm of the city. Charlottetown is shaped by the places where people gather, and Royalty Crossing Mall plays an important role in that landscape. By offering a space that prioritizes accessibility, convenience, and connection, it remains more than just a shopping destination - it’s a part of the community that helps bring the city together, one visit at a time.

Skincare Essentials for PEI Weather: Royalty Crossing Edition Living in Prince Edward Island means dealing with constantly changing weather, and your skin feels it just as much as you do. Cold winds, dry winter air, humid summers, and unpredictable seasonal shifts can all affect how your skin looks and feels, which is why having the right skincare essentials - and adjusting your routine throughout the year - can make a noticeable difference. During PEI’s winters, skin often becomes dry, tight, and sensitive due to cold temperatures and indoor heating. Rich moisturizers, gentle cleansers, and barrier-supporting products help protect the skin and lock in hydration, while lip care and hand creams become everyday essentials. As the weather warms in spring, routines naturally lighten. Gentle exfoliation helps remove winter dryness, hydration becomes more lightweight, and daily sun protection becomes increasingly important as daylight hours increase. Top skincare brands for hydration include The Ordinary (Sephora), as well as the Inky List (Sephora). Summer brings sun, heat, and humidity, making protection and balance key. Lightweight moisturizers, effective cleansers, and broad-spectrum sunscreen help keep skin comfortable while spending more time outdoors, with soothing after-sun care helping calm skin after long days in the sun. When you think SPF, think brands like Supergoop! (Sephora) and Paula’s Choice (Sephora). As fall approaches, skincare shifts toward restoring moisture and preparing the skin for colder months by gradually reintroducing richer formulas. Royalty Crossing Mall makes it easy to keep up with these seasonal changes. With trusted retailers offering a wide range of skincare essentials in one convenient location, locals can quickly restock or update their routine without the hassle of traveling across the city. Free parking and an easy shopping experience make skincare shopping simple and stress-free. PEI weather may be unpredictable, but with a routine that adapts to the seasons, healthy, comfortable skin is achievable year-round. Royalty Crossing Mall continues to be a reliable destination for Charlottetown shoppers looking to care for their skin - no matter what the forecast brings.

Skincare Essentials for PEI Weather: Royalty Crossing Edition

Ask anyone in Charlottetown where they’re most likely to run into someone they know, and Royalty Crossing will be high on the list. It’s right up there with the grocery store and the post office - except here, you’re far more likely to be caught pretending you didn’t see someone until it’s too late. Royalty Crossing has quietly become one of the city’s unofficial meeting places. You don’t need an invitation or a reason. People come for a few essentials, but they stay because they’ve run into three people they know and now they’re behind schedule anyway. On PEI, leaving the house without bumping into someone you recognize is ambitious at best. For many locals, the mall feels like neutral territory. You can be dressed properly or halfway through a “just running errands” outfit - no judgement either way. Chances are, the person you’re talking to is also in sneakers, a jacket they grabbed off the chair, and fully unprepared for a 15-minute catch-up. It’s also one of the few places where everyone ends up, regardless of age or stage of life. Students killing time, parents attempting to multitask, retirees doing their daily rounds with a cheery “Good Morning!” when you pass them in the halls. You’ll hear conversations about weather, road conditions, who’s related to who, and whether you “still live out that way.” And let’s be honest - Royalty Crossing is prime territory for the classic PEI conversation starter: “Who’s yer fadder?” Whether you’ve lived here forever or moved here years ago, someone will eventually connect you to a cousin, a neighbour, or a person they once worked with in 1988. There’s comfort in knowing exactly how the visit will go. You know where to park, which entrance you prefer, and which route avoids making eye contact if you’re not feeling particularly social that day. And yet, somehow, you still end up chatting in the middle of the walkway. Royalty Crossing isn’t just a place to shop. It’s where errands take twice as long, conversations happen unexpectedly, and you leave with more than you planned - sometimes purchases, sometimes just updates on people you haven’t seen in a while. On PEI, that’s just how it works. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Unofficial Meeting Place: Why Royalty Crossing Always Feels Familiar

You might think you’re just running errands or killing time, but the truth is, everyone has a favourite store at Royalty Crossing. The one you just happen to walk past. The one you check first. And yes - it probably says a lot about you. If Winners is your go-to, you’re a deal-hunter at heart. You love the thrill of the find and don’t mind a little digging if it means walking away with something great at a better price. You’ve mastered the art of saying, “I wasn’t planning on buying anything,” while carrying a full bag. Friends secretly admire your ability to spot quality from a mile away. Maybe H&M pulls you in instead. You like staying current without overthinking it. You’re organized, season-aware, and already planning outfits for weather that hasn’t arrived yet. You usually go in with a plan - but somehow leave with a few extra pieces because they just made sense. If you spend most of your time at SportChek, you’re practical and always moving. You believe good footwear matters, comfort is non-negotiable, and clothes should keep up with your lifestyle. Whether you’re working out or just dressing like you could at any moment, you appreciate gear that lasts. Then there are the Showcase shoppers - the ones who love a good laugh and an even better gift. You’re spontaneous, curious, and probably the person everyone counts on when a birthday sneaks up unexpectedly. You see fun where others see clutter, and you never underestimate the power of a novelty item. Urban Planet fans tend to be confident and expressive. You enjoy experimenting with style, switching things up, and trying trends without taking fashion too seriously. For you, getting dressed is part creativity, part mood - and always a little fun. And if your favourite stop isn’t a store at all but Cineplex, you’re more about experiences than things. You’re the planner of movie nights, the spontaneous “let’s go now” type, and you know exactly which snack combo hits best. Shopping is optional - popcorn is not. At the end of the day, Royalty Crossing works because it has a place for everyone — whether you’re there for deals, trends, comfort, entertainment, or just a quick wander. So, be honest… which store do you always end up at first?

If you’re more into frozen treats, their gelato comes in a variety of flavours, rich, creamy, and full of taste - ideal for a refreshing break in the middle of a busy mall day. Sweet Treat Tour - Royalty Crossing Edition

The Evolution of Royalty Crossing Royalty Crossing has been a familiar landmark in Charlottetown for more than 50 years, growing and transforming alongside the community it serves. The mall first opened in 1974 as Towers Mall, named after its original anchor tenant, the Towers department store. From the start, it became a popular shopping destination for Islanders. A major expansion in 1990 introduced Empire Theatres, adding a new entertainment experience that attracted families, movie-goers, and visitors from across the island. Just a year later, the mall entered a period of significant change. The Towers brand was purchased by The Hudson’s Bay Company and converted into a Zellers, prompting the first name change – now the Charlottetown Mall. This period also included the property’s first major renovation, giving the centre a fresh, modernized look. The early 2000s saw further growth as new anchor stores - including Winners, SportChek, Dollarama, and Moores Clothing for Men - joined the mall. These additions broadened the shopping experience and helped shape the retail mix that many Islanders still recognize today. In 2013, Empire Theatres rebranded as Cineplex Cinemas, continuing the tradition of providing a quality entertainment experience. That same year, Zellers closed its doors, and the space was taken over by Target, creating a buzz of excitement in the community. Although Target closed in 2015, the space it occupied soon became an opportunity for future redevelopment and growth. A major milestone arrived in 2021 when the mall was purchased by Killam Apartment REIT and officially renamed to Royalty Crossing. With new ownership came a renewed vision for the property—one focused on modernizing the mall, enhancing the visitor experience, and expanding services for the community. Today, Royalty Crossing is experiencing an exciting wave of revitalization. Recent enhancements include the opening of a modern new food court with fresh new vendors, an expanded Winners store, refreshed interior spaces, additional seating areas, a welcoming Guest Services Desk, and the added convenience of Access PEI. This is only the beginning—many more updates and new features are on the way as we continue to elevate the shopping experience. Our malls history is one of growth, renewal, and community connection—and the next chapter promises to be its most exciting yet. Do you remember any of these changes? Share this post along with your favourite mall memory and tag us @wherepeishops on Instagram and Royalty Crossing on Facebook. We love seeing all the amazing moments made in our mall!

The Evolution of Royalty Crossing

For Real Dough Some people dream of success. Others bake it - one indulgent cookie at a time. For Emily and Holly (the founders of For Real Dough), the dream of creating a “cookie empire” started long before the first batch left the oven. It was a running joke, a shared daydream, and a constant conversation between the two women. But beneath the laughter was a real ambition: to turn a passion for baking into something extraordinary. After attending culinary school and earning their Red Seal certifications, they had the training and the talent - they just needed the right moment. That moment arrived in the middle of the COVID pandemic, when the world felt uncertain. One of the women offered a simple, life-changing “Let’s do it.” And just like that, For Real Dough was born. The crown on their logo? A tribute to the empire they had always talked about—and the friend who helped make it real. Those early months were spent testing, tweaking, and perfecting every recipe from scratch. Nothing was borrowed, nothing duplicated. Every cookie on today’s menu was created in-house, crafted through countless rounds of trial, error, and taste-testing. What sets For Real Dough apart is its commitment to indulgence done right. The brand lives up to its name - using real, quality ingredients without shortcuts. We’re talking fresh fruit, real butter, house-made caramel, and everything baked from scratch. Emily’s professional training allowed her to develop every recipe with intention and skill, and to this day, the team still does everything themselves. Five years later, For Real Dough has grown from a quarantine-day idea into a thriving local business with a loyal fanbase - and that “cookie empire” dream suddenly feels a lot more real. Little by little, it’s coming to life… one indulgent cookie at a time. 🍪✨

When my father opened BIG BURGER in 1994, he opened his heart to our customers with the best gifts he could possibly give... his deep affection for Prince Edward Islanders and his life-long passion for fabulous food. It was love at first bite.

Today, celebrating 25 years of happy customers, it is that affection for Islanders that continues to set BIG BURGER apart. It’s why all those smiles greet you when you arrive! At BIG BURGER you will always be welcomed with kindness and your complete satisfaction is our top priority every time you return.

As the next generation of family business owners, we promise BIG BURGER will continue to specialize in the hand-crafted hamburgers that made us famous. Made fresh daily from 100% local PEI beef, BIG BURGERs are cooked to order — never pre-cooked — and served sizzling hot with a mouthwatering choice of toppings. Our cheeseburgers and bacon burgers feature fresh bacon and real cheddar cheese. These are the best tasting burgers you can ever bite into and exactly what we mean by fabulous food.

But did you know BIG BURGER just got bigger? Bigger choice and bigger value! In addition to all the other favourites for which we are famous — poutine, fries with the works, fish & chips, hot hamburger, home-made gravy, wraps, salads, sandwiches and classic milkshakes made with real hard ice cream — our bigger new menu features BBQ Bacon & Onion Cheeseburger, Sweet Chili Crispy Chicken and the opportunity to combo any burger, wrap or sandwich you wish... all made to order, the way you like!

We’re best known for our food products but we recognize, and our shoppers seem to agree, that our formula for delivering value works equally well in non-food areas. In fact, Canadians jumped at our alternative to traditional banking and its fresh new approach. Presidents Choice Financial has become a resounding success for over 2 million Canadians already. And, when we introduced our ever-growing line up of PC HOME products, applying our better-quality-for-less-money formula to the items shoppers need around the house every day, both the public and the press heralded its arrival.

For nearly 30 years, our family crafted and shared specialty chocolates enjoyed throughout the Middle East and Europe. In 2012, our lives changed forever when our family chocolate factory in Damascus, Syria, was destroyed during the war, forcing us to leave everything behind and begin a new journey as refugees. After three challenging years in Lebanon, our family was welcomed to Canada, where we found hope, opportunity, and a community that believed in us. With the incredible support of the people of Antigonish and Nova Scotia, we rebuilt our dream and founded Peace by Chocolate in 2016.Today, we're proud to continue our family's tradition of exceptional chocolate-making, blending premium ingredients with the rich flavours of our Syrian heritage. From roasted nuts and dried fruits to aromatic spices, every piece is handcrafted with care, passion, and an unwavering commitment to quality.More than just chocolate, every creation tells a story of resilience, gratitude, and the belief that kindness can change lives. We are honoured to bring that story to Royalty Crossing and look forward to sharing a little taste of heaven with our new community. After all, One Peace Won't Hurt™.

The Vintage Patch (TVP) was founded in 2015 as a result of discovering an enormous patch trove and needing a vehicle to sell them. From there TVP went to work, scouring the planet for vintage patches, eventually building an extraordinary collection of patches, vintage lapel pins, vintage stickers and much else. In 2017 we began to sew vintage patches onto garments and in particular brand new hats. Our sewing services are available every time we pop up. TVP wanted to know the origin and age of everything they acquired, but that information was nowhere to be found. It took years of assembling the pieces of this knowledge bank which became the foundation of what they do. This body of knowledge is now resourced by people across the world. Today TVP is the go-to source for legitimate ancient patches, pins and much else. We aren’t just sellers of old stuff, we are dealers of pop culture history, and like a museum in all respects, except everything is for sale. There’s no other company like ours in the world, and we have been seen on CBC, in the press and on the radio. Every patch tells a story…and we have a library of tales!
